Capturing Brazilian Soul Dance Company

January 28th, 2024

Juliana Paiva - a name that signifies vibrancy, culture, and passion. As the founder and creative director of Brazilian Soul Dance Company, Juliana has dedicated herself to the art of authentic Brazilian dance, right here in Tampa, Florida. Her troupe, composed of a group of talented dancers, radiates an intensity and rhythm that is uniquely and intrinsically Brazilian. It was time to refresh her dance portfolio and I was given the privilege to be part of this vibrant endeavor.

Our chosen location was the Ben T. Davis Beach, a sudo-beach that lies along the Courtney Campbell Causeway. Despite it not being my preferred spot, I was resolute to make it work. The day was rather gusty and nippy for Florida standards, but the adversity only fueled our determination. Juliana and her troupe, dressed in their revealing yet fabulous costumes, embodied a spirit of vibrancy and personality that outshone the weather.

In order to capture the true essence of their performance, I had them leaping in the air, their colorful costumes creating a kaleidoscope of hues against the cloudy and blue backdrop. My camera lens followed their every move, even if it meant rolling on the payvment along the beach to get the perfect shot.

Adding to the ambiance, Juliana had samba dance music playing on a portable speaker. The rhythmic beats echoed in the air, luring in a crowd of curious onlookers. The beach, usually a place of calm and tranquility, was transformed into a lively carnival of colors, music, and dance. Despite the chill in the air, the warmth of their performance seemed to create a tropical haven around us.

The girls, with their undeniable charm and talent, gave life to the otherwise mundane beach, attracting a plenty onlookers. Despite the challenges, we managed to pull off an incredibly successful photoshoot, creating photographs that perfectly encapsulated the essence of Juliana's Brazilian Soul Dance Company. It was, without a doubt, one of the most fun sessions I've ever had the pleasure of capturing.
